A vacant city property owned by Home HeadQuarters on Loomis Avenue was recently deconstructed with the help of Hope4Us Housing and YouthBuild at Jubilee Homes. The “Decon Crew” from YouthBuild learned the latest in recycling housing materials through the project including some fascinating aspects and some not very exciting, yet necessary techniques such as “denailing.” The house on Loomis is part of a four house project in the North Valley neighborhood that will include additional blighted property removal and new construction.
Home HeadQuarters’ Staff Chosen as SU Engagement Fellows
Tim Rittenhouse, who started at Home HeadQuarters as an intern many semesters ago and now helps manage several of our more unique construction projects, was recently selected as a 2010 Engagement Fellow at Syracuse University. Hilary Mansur, who will be joining Home HeadQuarters this summer as a property redevelopment and design specialist for our Near Westside projects, was also selected for the program. The program, which offers remitted tuition for courses at SU and arranges for professional and faculty mentors, supports student projects and allows students to explore innovative ways to help create sustainable development in Central New York. Selection of the Engagement Fellows is competitive and is based on the students’ academic record, history in experiential learning, interviews and recommendations. Meet Jessica

Eastwood 5-Star Rental Program 
When visiting Home HeadQuarters, you will more than likely encounter Jessica Guerrero’s smiling face. Jessica, who comes from New Jersey, by way of Peru, works the front desk for Home HeadQuarters helping to direct and answer customer questions. Jessica says that she especially enjoys assisting Spanish speaking customers in getting the information they need. As a receptionist, Jessica also helps customers fill out applications, informs them about various programs, signs clients up for homeownership classes, answers phones, updates insurance information and checks to ensure that all customer documents are complete. Jessica recently graduated from Bryant and Stratton College where she obtained a degree in Paralegal studies and hopes one day to be involved with immigration law.
