Whew: Block Blitz Complete!

Almost 50 houses, 200 volunteers, 500 bottles of water and two tons of dirt and mulch later, Home HeadQuarters’ 2010 Neighborhood Block Blitz is now complete.  Volunteers withstood a morning downpour, 90 degree heat in the afternoon, mud, weeds, splinters and plenty of heavy lifting.  We thank everyone who helped us make the event a great success not only in raising more than $115,000 in donated services, materials and funding, but most importantly, by making a difference for so many families in two city neighborhoods.

Home HeadQuarters is a HUD-authorized HECM counseling agency and can provide anyone interested with information on reverse mortgages and home equity. 1000th HomeOwnership Course Internet Sign Up

Kelly Hodge of Syracuse became our 1000th HomeOwnership Class participant to sign up to attend the class through our website.  Rey Ortiz, Home HeadQuarters HomeOwnership Counselor who teaches most of our Nationally-certified course presented Ms. Hodge with a Lowe’s gift certificate as a home repair head start. Not Completely Complete?!

While we say that the Block Blitz is complete, we really have a smidge of work left to do including additional painting on the Police Storefront on Otisco and a porch or two on the Southside that needs to season before painting.  Helping us finish some of our painting tasks this past week was a group of SU Students through Hendricks Chapel who arrived into town early and began immediately to look for some volunteer activities.  The students, along with some neighborhood kids, helped us finish sidewalk painting on the corners of Otisco and Ontario Streets.
