1% Home Improvement Loan Rollouts
The Historic Strathmore 1% Home Improvement Loan rollout saw more than
200 neighborhood residents come out this past Saturday morning
to hear how the program worked from Congressman Walsh, Mayor
Driscoll, Councilor McMahon and Home HeadQuarters’ Executive Director
Kerry Quaglia. The loan program, which provides a low 1% interest
rate to homeowners regardless of equity and income eligibility
requirements for exterior home improvements, is made possible
through Syracuse Neighborhood Initiative funding which buys down
the interest rate of Home HeadQuarters existing FlexFund Loan.
FlexFund loan capital is available to Home HeadQuarters through
the participation of 12 area banks and credit unions including
HSBC Bank, Citizens Bank, Alliance Bank, Community Bank System,
Citizens Bank, Visions Credit Union, Empower Federal Credit Union, Beacon
Federal, Geddes Federal Savings & Loan,
Solvay Bank, Cooperative Federal Credit Union and ESM-NS Federal
Credit Union.
Other Neighborhood 1% Loan Rollouts are coming soon:

Near Westside Update
For many families who have been renting on the Near Westside for years,
and some for decades, the path to homeownership is a long and arduous one.
Home HeadQuarters is currently working with a handful of families who are
interested in purchasing the homes they were renting, but need to build
long-term credit and budgeting skills before they buy. And for the most
part, the rented homes, previously owned by absentee landlords, are in
need of major rehabilitation if not complete deconstruction.
The immediate
challenge for both Home HeadQuarters and these Near Westside families
was finding temporary housing that fit everyone’s needs while still
being located within the neighborhood. With financial help from a local
couple who attend St. Lucy’s church, Home HeadQuarters was able to
purchase and rehabilitate a “First Step” home where renting
families can live temporarily while their future homes are being reconstructed
and their credit is being built. Home HeadQuarters is working to secure
and rehabilitate multiple “First Step” homes and with the help
of the Center of Excellence and the SU School of Architecture, working
on green and energy efficient rehabilitation plans for the future homeowners.

Seeking a Foreclosure Prevention Specialist
