Home HeadQuarters' Annual Block Blitz Friday, September 16th, 2011 When: 9am-4pm Where: TBA HHQ hosts a day-long community development event called the Block Blitz that organizes volunteers, non-profit organizations, churches, residents, businesses and contractors to donate their time, labor and materials to help improve the exterior of homes in Syracuse's neighborhoods. Volunteers paint, landscape, weed, build, repair, clean up and complete everything else in between. The result of the volunteers' work is instant and the improved aesthetics create a sense of real change and pride in the neighborhood. This momentum is continued as each Block Blitz site is part of a larger neighborhood revitalization plan that is created and implemented by HHQ and multiple community stakeholders. Last year's Block Blitz benefited the Near Westside and King's Park Landing Neighborhoods in the city of Syracuse, and the Orchard Street Neighborhood in the city of Auburn. The event drew more than 300 volunteers from more than 20 agencies, and more than 50 businesses donated materials and equipment such as trees, shovels, plants, paint, water and even lunch!
